Launch of SPLIT web site – Study of HPV and precancerous lesions in the tonsil
11/10/2012 -
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is coordinating the "Study of human Papillomavirus and precancerous Lesions In the Tonsil" (SPLIT) project, which has received a grant from Institut National du Cancer (INCa), Association pour la Recherche sur le Cancer (ARC), and Ligue contre le Cancer as part of the French "Programme d'Actions Intégrées de Recherche – Cancers des Voies Aéro-Digestives Supérieures (PAIR – VADS) 2011".

Head and neck surgeons and pathologists from 17 recruiting centres and biologists from 7 research laboratories across France are collaborating to address the question of the natural history of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in the tonsil.

The SPLIT project has the potential to provide a breakthrough in the understanding of the molecular, cytological, and histological changes that accompany the onset of HPV-related and -unrelated tonsil carcinomas.

A dedicated web site, http://split.iarc.fr, presents SPLIT to the scientific community through its public interface, including objectives, news about the project, and other information. The site will also offer the SPLIT group an electronic work platform through its password-protected area.
